Why are people suddenly buy music from a singer when they die?

Since the death of Michael Jackson, people bought CDs and MP3s of their music. So why his music dominated the Top 10 on iTunes My question is, if people are fans of a singer or group, which has music of them before he died? Besides, why wait (not sure if this expectation is the right word), a person dies? I have not bought the music of Michael Jackson since he died.

MJ I liked the music but I never bought. The only thing that will happen a lot people will pay to much for an album. I mean elf has been dead for years, and you can still buy your music if you want, what are these people thinking!
